Online Composition Software (flat.io)

Online Composition Software (flat.io)

I’m very impressed.  For years I’ve awaited a day when it would be ‘easy’ to enter symphonic orchestrations and have them produce a simulated orchestral rendering as an audio file.  (‘easy’ in quotes because it’s never really ‘easy’ to work with symphonic scores).

I have a limited ability to read scores.  I can read music but also, very slowly and just the basics.

Even so, I went to flat.io and created an account.  The service is ‘free’ but it has upgrades so it’s not really free.  The free account without upgrading though does seem to be feature rich.

I was able to produce a score and a simulated orchestral audio rendering of the introductions to some of my favourite pieces (excerpts).

Tchaikovsky V – II – Intro

Superman Intro

Shema Koleinu

(I sang in a choir for many years.  This is a liturgical piece laid out for choir (SATB) which I adapted for strings.)

Best of all, there was no software to install;  This all happened online.  I’m very impressed with the design and usability of this site.
