It’s Not That Easy Being Green: On the Small Screen – Grace Under Fire

First a little background music:

A brief history:

And now, our main feature.  🙂

I built a green screen so I could have fun playing with what was once called “chroma key” and in many circles still is.  My daughter asked how it worked.  I told her the computer looks for a colour and replaces it with a background.  I said that’s why you’re not supposed to wear green on a set.  It’s sort of common knowledge among broadcasters.  You’ll hear them say: “didn’t you know you weren’t supposed to wear green?”

So she asked me: “What happens if you do?”

I showed her a video of a poor chap who happened to have bought a ‘power tie’ and it was too close to the colour of the chroma key.  I think he handled it brilliantly.  He got flustered because he was afraid we’d start laughing at him instead of with him.  We were just laughing along with him.  Good broadcaster, promote him.  It was his news director who told him to get a power tie, now give him a power promotion!   🙂
