Experiencing Allergies? Try these Natural Treatments

You’ve muddled through a long winter and finally spring comes. A precious short moment later, trees and plants realize it’s spring too. Soon your eyes are watering and your ears are itchy, you have a scratchy palette, sore throat and of course, the annoying sneezing and headaches.

Why do we have Allergies?

There are a few theories out there. One is that our over sanitary environment that we live in leaves our immune systems confused primed to attack relatively friendly invaders such as pollen. Others blame environmental factors such as pollution for weakening our immune systems.

What can we do about them?

I’ve found two supplements that seem to do the trick for me.

  1. In Canada: (Immuno-Care), in the US:
Why it works: In short, plant sterols which are in poor supply in our modern diet are provided such that the immune system can work optimally. What’s great about this supplement is that it ‘tunes’ the immune system. If the immune system is sluggish, it tunes it up, and if it’s overactive (as in the case of allergies) it throttles it to a healthier level. The product is recommended by Dr. Gifford Jones and more info can be found here: https://immuno-care.com/index.php/introduction/immunologic-scalpel

  1. This supplement contains a synergistic blend. I went to the health food store looking for quercetin and butterbur and low and behold, I found a supplement with both. Quercetin is a natural anti-inflammatory and also a natural antihistamine. Butterbur is a natural antihistamine rivaling commercial antihistamines in some studies (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11799030). Rosemary Extract is included due to its anti-oxidant effects and it’s known generally (anecdotally) to reduce allergies.

My experience with these two supplements is very good. Within hours of taking them, my headache alleviated and my nose cleared. Perfect it is not, but it has reduced my symptoms by 80% (no better than my experience with pharmaceutical anti-histamines).
